TRON GETS 'SWEDED'...

For those who haven't seen Michel Gondry's film Be Kind Rewind, 'sweding' involves amateur filmmakers creating homespun homages to movies. Here, French filmmaker Freres-Hueon recreates the infamous light cycle scene from Tron. Radness.

GUILTY SIMPSON...

Detroit heavyhitter Guilty Simpson unleashes Ode to the Ghetto this week on Stones Throw. Dude has been droppin' guest verses on nearly every ST release for the past year so it's nice to finally hear his first full length. Indie thug rap at it's finest.

P73...

14 blog postings and none of them pertaining to my man P73. I should be ashamed of myself. Here's the video for "Class of 73 Bells" featuring School of Seven Bells. Taken from the dopeness that is Preparations on Warp.

STAINLESS STYLE...

OK, enough with the "Best of 2007" video clips. It's time to start reppin' for the new year. 2008 has already delivered a few bangers but today marks the release of something special.

Nearly 2 years in the making, Gruff Rhys (of Super Furry Animals fame) & Boom Bip finally unveil their debut as Neon Neon, Stainless Style courtesy of Lex Records.

The album draws inspiration from the lavish lifestyle of auto engineer John DeLorean, creator of the iconic 80's sports car best known for it's appearance in Back to the Future. Peep the video for the scorching single "I Lust U" featuring Welsh singer Cate Le Bon. It's a sure shot.

PAPER PLANES...

Up next is M.I.A. with "Paper Planes" off her sophomore smash, Kala. Production on this hot lil' slab of goodness is handled by none other than Mr. Wesley Pentz, otherwise known as Diplo. Cop the single to hear the street remix with guest verses from Bun B & Rich Boy. Savage.

LET ME WORK IT OUT...

More video heat from the '07, here's Rjd2 with "Work It Out". Taken from The Third Hand on XL Recordings. The dude you see dancing around on crutches is Bill Shannon, a dance and media artist who was born with a degenerative hip condition. The video was shot using one continuous take and includes several random cameos from Rj...see if you can spot them all.

NONE SHALL PASS...

Next up, Bay Area design studio OrdinaryKids bring to life the illustrations of Jeremy Fish in the video for Aesop Rock's "None Shall Pass" off his 5th studio album of the same name. Blockhead provides the beat for this instant classic.

BLU COLLAR WORKER...

Up next is Blu & Exile with "So(ul) Amazin' (Steel Blazin')" off of the stellar Below the Heavens. Easily one of my favorite records from 2007. Lyrically, Blu is the truth. I expect big things from him in the near future. Be on the lookout for his C.R.A.C. (pronounced "crass") project with Motor City emcee Ta'Raach later this year on Tres Records.

FINGER SNAPS & HAND CLAPS...

Keepin' it moving, we've got Marco Polo featuring Masta Ace with "Nostalgia". I absolutely love this beat. I didn't know much about Marco prior to this single dropping...but once I heard it I immediately became a fan. It just has that classic boom-bap feel. Taken from Marco's debut on Rawkus Records, Port Authority.

MONEY FOR NOTHING...

Moving right along...we've got Chromeo with "Bonified Lovin". The electro-funk duo of Dave 1 (A-Trak's older brother) & P-Thugg killed it this past year with their sophomore effort on Vice Records, Fancy Footwork.

The entire record is filled with analog synth melodies, programmed drums, cheesy guitar solos, infectious hooks and liberal use of the talkbox tube. Needless to say, this bad boy was in heavy rotation for a good while.

To top things off they put together a burner of a video that pays tribute to a classic from the early MTV days, "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits.

GOT HER TOES DONE UP...

Straight outta the suburbs of CHI-town is Kid Sister with the KanYe assisted "Pro-Nails Remix". For those playing catch-up, Kid Sister is Melissa Young...real life kid sister to J2K (one half of dj tandem Flosstradamus)...girlfriend to A-Trak (who just so happens to be the traveling dj for the Louis Vuitton Don himself). Connecting the dots?

This jam comes to you courtesy of Fool's Gold Records (A-Trak's label) and is a certified banger. Kid Sister's debut, Dream Date drops this summer on Downtown/Fool's Gold.

BLOWN DEADLINE...

This little bloggy-blog was supposed to be up roughly 2 months ago but as anyone who knows me can tell you, I'm a slow mover (cue footage of Bill & Karolyn Slowsky). Anyhow, 2007 was a monster year for music so I'd like to kick things off with a few of my favorite videos from the past year.

First up, is "Truth Skull" from Lymbyc Systym. This two-man band (brothers Jared & Michael Bell) from Tempe, Arizona got some serious digital spins from me in the 07.

Their first full length release, Love Your Abuser, was pretty much my work-time soundtrack for like 3 straight months. No joke.
