L.A. SERIES #2...

Out this week is the second (of 10) 10" releases in the L.A. Series from All City. Each release spotlights two LA based producers. Part 2 features new music from Sweatson Klank (the artist formerly known as Take) and Brainfeeder affiliate matthewdavid. Personally, I'm partial to the 3 joints produced by SK. "Soul Particles" is my favorite of the bunch, check it out after the jump.

BROKEN BELLS...

Also out this week is the highly anticipated self-titled debut from Broken Bells -- Shins frontman James Mercer and super-producer Danger Mouse.

The duo play every instrument heard on the record with Mercer singing and playing guitar and bass, while DM handles the drums and keys. If you haven't already heard it, check out lead single "The High Road" after the jump.

PLASTIC BEACH...

The most high-profile release this week is Plastic Beach, the third album from Gorillaz -- Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett's animated group of musical misfits.



Unlike previous releases which featured production from Dan the Automator (2001's self-titled debut) and Danger Mouse (2005's Demon Days), this time around Albarn handles most of the production duties himself and the end result is quite rewarding. Albarn dips into a number of different musical styles on PB including Krautrock, funk, hip-hop, and dubstep blending each of them nicely with his trademark weary vocals.

As expected, the album is chock-full of cameos from a wide range of genres including Mos Def, Bobby Womack, Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed, De La Soul, Gruff Rhys, and many more. Check out the video for standout single "Stylo" featuring Mos Def & Bobby Womack after the jump.

A SUFI AND A KILLER...

LOTS of new music this week. First up is A Sufi and a Killer, the debut full-length from haunting vocalist Gonjasufi. The album features production from a trio of LA beat scene heavyweights - The Gaslamp Killer, Mainframe, and Flying Lotus. Hallucinogenic head-nod music at it's finest.

LOST WHERE I BELONG (VIDEO)...

New(ish) video from Ninja Tune songstress Andreya Triana. This is "Lost Where I Belong" from her forthcoming album of the same name. Track produced by Bonobo. If her voice sounds familiar, think "Tea Leaf Dancers" from Flying Lotus.

I WISH IT WOULD RAIN...

Sticking with the Mayer Hawthorne theme from yesterday, here's a new video from the blue-eyed soul sensation for "I Wish It Would Rain" from his debut A Strange Arrangement.

PANTS PLAYS MAYER...

Pants plays Mayer and Mayer play Pants. New 7" from Stones Throw with James Pants covering Mayer Hawthorne's "Green Eyed Love" and Mayer Hawthorne covering "Thin Moon" from James Pants. Whoa. That was confusing.

STUSSY x J DILLA DOCUMENTARY PART 3...

Part 3 (of 3) of the documentary put together by Stussy to honor the legacy of the incomparable J Dilla.

DEDND...

New video from Sumach Ecks, better known as Gonjasufi. This is "DedNd" from the forthcoming A Sufi and a Killer on Warp. The album lands on March 9th and features production from GLK, Mainframe, and Flying Lotus.

THE HIDDEN TREASURES EP...

Last week One-Handed Music released The Hidden Treasures EP from South London MC/producer Tranqill. The EP features 3 unreleased tracks from Tranqill and a stellar remix from Paul White. Available for download via Bandcamp. Check out the audio after the jump.
