In conjunction with Stones Throw Records, Stussy has created a special 3-part documentary that celebrates the life and times of the late James Dewitt Yancey, better known to the world as J Dilla.

Out today on Nature Sounds is Jay $tay Paid, a 29 track collection of unreleased Dilla beats mixed and arranged by Pete Rock.



Executive produced by Dilla's mother Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancy, J$P is mostly instrumental but does feature vocal contributions from Black Thought, Blu, DOOM, M.O.P., and a few others. According to Ma Dukes...

"This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep, and some stuff pulled from old disks & DATs. It's mind blowing...this is like the missing links to Dilla's legacy."

R.I.P. DILLA...

Three years ago today, James DeWitt Yancy (better known as J Dilla), one of the most influential hip-hop producers of his era passed away from complications related to lupus.

Also out this week is the debut from Dilla's younger brother Illa J entitled Yancey Boys. The album is produced entirely by the late J Dilla using unreleased beats from 95'-98'. Little brother's rhyming/singing might not be up to snuff with big brother's production, but when the beats are this good who am I to complain?

I've been listening to a lot J Dilla records lately and this track is definitely one of my personal favorites. From the Chrome Children compilation (and later the Ruff Draft EP re-issue) here is "Nothing Like This".

DILLA.GHOST.DOOM.

In late 2005 Ghostface & MF DOOM were both recording over tracks from Dilla's instrumental opus, Donuts, which saw release the following February.



Some of these were released on Ghostface's Fishscale in 2006, while others, including a Dilla-Doom project, were postponed indefinitely after Dilla's passing. Two of these tracks, “Sniperlite” and “Murder Goons,” will be released digitally, exclusively through Stones Throw's webstore, due to launch very soon.
