Musician/producer Leb Laze lost a dear friend this year, his MPC 2000. As his trusty production tool was dying, it started to randomly spit out all of the sounds loaded within it in their raw and unedited form.. over and over again. Leb Laze began to record and embrace these freakouts, using them as a basis for the majority of the songs on his new album Music for Troubled Machinery.

The production on the album is top-notch (even by Yeezy standards) and the vocals throughout are spot on with appearances from Jay-Z, KiD CuDi, The RZA, Raekwon, Nicki Minaj, Pusha T, Rick Ross, John Legend, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and many, many more. Another big week for new releases. First up is Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, the highly-anticipated sophomore record from stoney hip-hop crooner KiD CuDi.

Production on the album is handled primarily by Emile, Dot Da Genius and Plain Pat and features guest vocals from Cee-Lo, KanYe West, Mary J. Blige, Cage and more. My first time through the album was a bit underwhelming. Let's see if it grows on me.

Out today courtesy of FE Music is Authenticity, the third album from hip-hop turned soul duo The Foreign Exchange. One of the strengths of 2008's Leave It All Behind was the diversity of vocal talents backing Phonte including Muhsinah, YahZarah and Darien Brockington. With Authenticity, Phonte goes it alone for much of the album and I can't yet say if that's a good thing. Perhaps I need to give it a few more spins?
